05-03-2024 Design and Fabrication of a Three-Motor Dicing System for Precision Cutting of Silicon Wafers and Electronic Circuits
The project proposal seeks to design and implement a dicing system, intended for the precise cutting of silicon parts and electronic circuits. The project will incorporate three independent motors to ensure greater precision and versatility in cuts. Key aspects will be addressed such as process automation, efficiency in the handling of delicate materials and the integration of advanced technologies to improve the quality of electronic devices manufactured in the UC clean room. This project will provide students with valuable hands-on experience in the application of manufacturing techniques from the semiconductor industry.

20-06-2023 Designing a Simulation Environment for Differential Drive Robotic Structures
Currently, academic institutions have robotic platforms that enable the practical application of theoretical engineering concepts in real scenarios and problems. However, limitations have been identified regarding the lack of a simulator that allows students to familiarize themselves with the platform outside the laboratory environment. In this context, the proposal is to design a simulation environment that accurately reproduces the characteristics of existing robotic platforms. Specifically, the geometry of the platforms, electronic components, and mechanical aspects should be considered to achieve an accurate simulation of both the platforms and the operating environment. The simulation environment should be intuitive for the user and have proper documentation to facilitate future improvements or modifications.

05-06-2023 Workers' positioning and task identification system for offsite construction industries
Offsite construction industries have become appealing because of their time efficiencies, safety, and reduced waste. Although this new trend promotes the previously mentioned advantages, they still face some significant challenges, such as tracking and monitoring the current state of the component being built. In order to address this challenge, the current undergraduate research project proposes developing and implementing a worker's positioning and activity identification system. The information to accomplish these aims is retrieved from four load cells (LC) and four inertial measurement units (IMUs). The sensor data should be acquired and pre-processed by a microcontroller, sending that information to a computer. The computer uses pre-processed information to identify the workers' positions and their current activities.

06-07-2022 All-optical electrophysiology signal extraction using deep learning
All-optical electrophysiology is revolutionizing neurobiology by enabling stimulation and measurement of large-scale neuronal activity non-invasively in the living brain of model animals. In our Laboratory we develop computational imaging techniques and apply them to optical electrophysiology measurements with high-speed optical section. In this project we will develop artificial intelligence methods to optimally identify neural signals from imperfect, mixed, and moving measurements. We seek to implement an algorithm that replicates the function of the human brain to identify these signals, which exceeds existing numerical algorithms. Expertise in programming, deep learning, and neurophysiology is welcome but not necessary.

14-12-2021 Modeling of the atmospheric signal and other contaminants in cosmological data
The measurements of the cosmic microwave background radiation done from the ground suffer from atmospheric contamination, as well as other contaminants. This justifies the development of new models to identify and treat these contaminants, aiming to produce clean maps of the background signal. Our group is an active collaborator of several CMB experiments installed in Chile, contributing among other things to the analysis and reduction of raw data, including the modeling of contamination and systematic effects contained in the data. In this IPRE the student will develop computational and mathematical methods to model and extract the atmospheric signal from real raw data obtained by the ACT telescope. His/her results will be potentially implemented in the real pipeline for the production of better CMB maps.
