27-06-2023 Segmentation and classification of rocks in mining operations.
ChatGPT Within the field of the mining industry, one of the main activities is the fragmentation and crushing of rocks for material extraction. In this context, the accurate detection of rocks in mining operations becomes crucially relevant. However, rock recognition remains a problem. One of the challenges lies in the segmentation and classification of rocks based on their size. From this perspective, the objective of this undergraduate research project (IPRE) is to carry out the manual labeling of rocks present in mining operations and evaluate the performance of two neural network-based algorithms for rock detection and classification.

20-06-2023 Designing a Simulation Environment for Differential Drive Robotic Structures
Currently, academic institutions have robotic platforms that enable the practical application of theoretical engineering concepts in real scenarios and problems. However, limitations have been identified regarding the lack of a simulator that allows students to familiarize themselves with the platform outside the laboratory environment. In this context, the proposal is to design a simulation environment that accurately reproduces the characteristics of existing robotic platforms. Specifically, the geometry of the platforms, electronic components, and mechanical aspects should be considered to achieve an accurate simulation of both the platforms and the operating environment. The simulation environment should be intuitive for the user and have proper documentation to facilitate future improvements or modifications.

05-06-2023 Workers' positioning and task identification system for offsite construction industries
Offsite construction industries have become appealing because of their time efficiencies, safety, and reduced waste. Although this new trend promotes the previously mentioned advantages, they still face some significant challenges, such as tracking and monitoring the current state of the component being built. In order to address this challenge, the current undergraduate research project proposes developing and implementing a worker's positioning and activity identification system. The information to accomplish these aims is retrieved from four load cells (LC) and four inertial measurement units (IMUs). The sensor data should be acquired and pre-processed by a microcontroller, sending that information to a computer. The computer uses pre-processed information to identify the workers' positions and their current activities.
