Biomass production and minitoring of bioleaching processes
In this Ipre research, biomass production of bioleaching microorganisms will be optimized. This biomass will be used for innoculation and monitoring bioleaching processes in columns and/or biorreactors of chalcopyrite containing minerals. Planned work includes: Growth of iron/sulfur oxidising consortia at 37 and 50°C Biorreactors operation and leaching monitoring DNA extraction PCR for detection of species present on each consortium Bioleaching monitoring on columns and/or pilot heaps

Image analysis of Leptospirillum spp. biofilms and identification of inhibitory factors
The objective of this IPre is to quantify the differences between the patterns of colonization and formation of biofilms of Leptospirillum spp. Tested as substrates coupons, and grains of pyrite (FeS2). You will make experiments of leaching, epifluorescence microscopy and image analysis using scripts in R and Python. Also be tested for potential inhibitory molecules of the leaching and formation of biofilms of Leptospirillum spp.
