Public Research Opportunities

17-06-2016 Modeling wildfire contributions to urban air quality
Using a new fuzzy clustering technique (FUSTA) to estimate contributions of wildfires to urban air quality. FUSTA will recognize spatiotemporal patterns associates with those events and their impact upon ambient concentrations of particulate matter and gases. The analysis is carried out using R.

16-08-2016 Research in MOOC - Software Development
The MOOCs are Massively Open Courses and in Lines that give training free of charge to anyone who has an internet connection. One of the main problems of MOOCs is that there are a large number of people who do not finish the courses. In this research work in the development of web and mobile applications to support the student in advance of the course.

07-01-2020 Graph neural networks for unstructured data in cardiovascular disease
Traditional deep learning approaches rely on structured data, such as images, to make predictions. However, there are cases where the data is unstructured, such as the geometry of the heart. This type of information can be represented with graphs. In this study, we will develop a novel type of neural network that can operate on these graphs and make predictions about cardiovascular diseases.

18-07-2022 Spatiotemporal patterns in ambient air pollution
Ambient air pollution has been analyzed by means of pattern recognition algorithms. Results from different algortihms and input parameters will be compared to establish sensitivity of output results to those different input options. As benchmark, known results from air quality modeling will be used for ambient PM2.5 and PM10 in several cities in Chile. The R software environment will be used in teh analyses.
