Tectono-Climatic control on Glacial Cirques, Patagonia Chile
The specific objectives of this project are directed to: i) Preparation of geomorphological cartography of glacial cirques. ii) Statistical analysis of the distribution and morphology of glacial cirques. iii) Statistical correlation of the parameters obtained with the tectonic factors (e.g. tectonic uplift, main failure systems) and regional climatic factors (e.g. precipitation, temperature, wind direction). Students will learn to make an aerial image and digital elevation model with the use of drones. They will acquire the competences for the correct handling of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), through the interpretation of the geoforms associated with the glacial dynamics and the tectonic activity of the upper crust. Finally, the students will proceed to the statistical analysis of the data obtained through the mapping and its correlation with the tectonic and climatic parameters that dominate the study region.
